WIGS

different wigs

A wig is a head of hair made from horse hair, human hair  wool feathers, yak hair, buffalo hair, or synthetic materials which is worn on the head for fashion or various other aesthetic and stylistic reasons, including cultural and religious observance. The word wig is short for periwig and first appeared in the English language around 1675.

Ancient use

The ancient Egyptians wore them to shield their shaved, hairless heads from the sun. The Egyptians also wore the wigs on top of their hair using beeswax and resin to keep the wigs in place. Other ancient cultures, including the Assriens, Peniocans, Greeks and Romans, also used wigs. Wigs are principally a Western form of dress—in the Far East  they have rarely been used except in the traditional Theatre of China and Japan. Some East Asian entertainers (Japanese Geisha, Korean Kisagne) wore wigs (Katsura and Gacha respectively) as part of their traditional costumes.

16th and 17th century

After the fall of the Roman Empire, the use of wigs fell into abeyance in the West for a thousand years until revived in the 16th century as a means of compensating for hair loss or improving one's personal appearance. They also served a practical purpose: the unhygienic conditions of the time meant that hair attracted head lice, a problem that could be much reduced if natural hair were shaved and replaced with a more easily de-loused artificial hairpiece. Fur hoods were also used in a similar preventative fashion.

MILITRY WIGS

From the late 17th to early 19th centuries, European armies wore uniforms more or less imitating the civilian fashions of the time, but with militarized additions. As part of that uniform, officers wore wigs more suited to the drawing rooms of Europe than its battlefields. The late 17th Century saw officers wearing full-bottomed natural-coloured wigs, but the civilian change to shorter, powdered styles with pigtails in the early 18th Century saw officers adopting similar styles. The elaborate, over-sized court-styles of the late 18th Century were not followed by armies in the field however, as they were impractical to withstand the rigours of military life and simpler wigs were worn.
Whilst officers normally wore their own hair short under a powdered wig, the rank and file of the infantry were not afforded such luxury. Instead of wigs, the men grew their hair long and according to the prevailing fashion in a nation’s army, hair was either allowed to grow long with simple modeling, as in the French army of the 1740s, or else was elaborately coiffured as in Prussian and British armies. In the case of British soldiers of the 1740s, contemporary artwork suggests that they cut their hair short, which was not the case. Instead, the men used tallow or other fat to grease the hair, which was then fashioned into pigtails and tied back into the scalp hair to give the impression of short hair. It was then liberally dusted with powdered chalk to give the impression of a powdered wig. Later in the century, hair was likewise tied back, greased and powdered, but false hair pigtails were adopted, kept in a tubular queue and tied back with ribbons to the soldier’s own hair. The overall effect was that of a wig with a long tail and bow. The Prussian army took personal hairstyles to an extreme during the time of Fredrick the great ,each soldier commonly having a long pigtail hanging down the back nearly to waist level.

The history of Make-up.

Late Eighteenth century return to nature.

The french revolution of 1789 fashion and makeup had changed by developing since 1775 and then it took affect .The new hair fashion was to wear wigs with curling coils on the top of the head letting the natural hair fall loosely down of the back of the neck.

The make-up is very nice and natural it is very plain but is a lovely skin tone that this young women has.

Victorian Delicacy
Women in the 19th century liked to be thought of as fragile ladies. They compared themselves to delicate flowers and emphasised there delicacy and femininity. They aimed always to look pale and interesting. Paleness could be induced by drinking vinegar and avoiding fresh air.Sometimes ladies discreetly used a little rouge on there cheeks, but make up was frowned upon in general especially during the 1870's when social etiquette became more rigid.

1940's- Make do with little Make-up

In the 1940's make was kept to a minimum due to the shortage of constituents the seeming frivolity of its use.
However hairstyles and the variety of looks they produced was very very important. The influence of film stars helped make fashionable, styles such as the veronica lake style.

Fantasy Make-up.

For this week I have chosen to pick twilight for my fantasy makeup.

For Bella's make up it could of been a tiny bit heavier for this type of film because she is a young girl in between two guys that she Adore's and loves  them both but in this photo you are only  attractive to our Bella's eyebrows so my opinion would be that the artist would have to tone down the colour on the eyebrows and more colour on the eyes and cheeks maybe i little bit heavier on the lip colour.

The next one I have decided to do is pirates of the Caribbean introducing JACK SPARROW.  Jack's make up is very interesting for a guy its shows here that this make up is perfect its shows that he is a truly a real pirate. It shows here that jack's eye make up is superb simply with the eyeliner around the eyes it is deep and very dark and that is what you need for these types of film's. Also jack's foundation is a bit dark but you could maybe try blending it out more for a Evan more good effect.

The other film i have picked is 800 fantasy lane.

This film was set in the late 70's as you can see by the hairstyle and and the make up i like this make up it is natural but I think it could be  more heavier for fanasty and for the film maybe trying blusher but yeah I like her make up.

Make-up

This foundation is my favourite it is by Revlon and it feel really smooth on your skin and it blends into your own skin colour. You can get in any shape or size and ovcourse different colours.

Great lash mascara is very good it is nice and smooth when you put it on your lashes and it does not stick your eyelashes together like most mascaras do but this mascara is special because it adds volume and it separates every single little eyelash.

Lip colours are simply the best you can get any lipsticks in any colour. Most people go for a very pail colour but others go simply a really dark colour such as a deep red lipstick. This inspires me.

Eye shadows are simply the best because you can do any shapes and sizes on you or your clients eyes. You can also get different verity's and colours i.e. pink, blue, green, purple, red.

Powdered blushers are very important in life you can go in and buy different styles and also different colours for example in this picture it shows that the colour is peach but you can also get blushers in
Pink
peach
natural
and loads of different colours.
